Meet Kim: Senior HR Manager

Meet kim

March 7 was Employee Appreciation Day, but we’re celebrating our team members all month long by sharing their stories. Read more about Kim Schloeder, Senior HR Manager who works remotely for New Story Management.

What is your favorite thing about working here?

My favorite thing about working at New Story is the strong sense of work family and support.  It’s a place where teamwork, encouragement, and genuine care for one another create an environment that makes coming to work every day truly fulfilling.

How do you make an impact on students’ lives?

In my role, I may not work directly with students, but I have the privilege of making a difference in their lives by supporting the employees who serve them. By prioritizing our staff’s well-being and success every day, I help create an environment where they can focus on what matters most—positively impacting students.

Which one of our BetterTogether values resonates with you most personally and why? (Integrity, Accountable, Collaborative, Inclusive, Supportive)

The value of being supportive resonates with me because I believe that encouragement, kindness, and teamwork create the foundation for success. Whether in the workplace or personal life, knowing that you have people who uplift and empower you can make all the difference. I strive to be that source of support for others, just as I have been fortunate to receive it myself.

What does a “day in the life” look like for your role?

A day in the life of HR is dynamic and people-centered, balancing strategic goals with employee needs. The day often begins with reviewing emails and addressing any urgent employee inquiries or concerns. From there, it might include attending meetings with leadership to discuss workplace policies or engagement strategies, onboarding new hires, or facilitating training sessions to support professional growth.  No two days are exactly alike, but the common thread is always putting people first.

Can you talk a little bit about your career trajectory and what led you to where you are now?

I’ve been with the company for 24 years and have had the privilege of working in a variety of roles, including frontline staff (working directly with students), program coordination, quality improvement, and human resources.  Each role has allowed me to gain valuable experience across different areas.  I can testify to the fact that the company provides opportunities for growth!

What has been your proudest moment or accomplishment in your role?

When the HR teams from three businesses united to form a single, statewide team dedicated to supporting employee needs more effectively.  I’m honored to be part of an AMAZING HR team!!!

What is something about you that not many people know?

I am a living liver donor.  In 2018, I made the decision to donate half of my liver to someone in need.  I didn’t know this person at the time but had the opportunity to meet her three months after the surgery.  She had been on the transplant list for 23 years (since the age of 10).  The transplant was a success!  We call ourselves the “Liver Sisters.”
